The Country

Often referred to as the “gateway to Africa”, Ghana is one of the friendliest, most contemporary and most accessible countries on the continent. If you consider Ghana’s reputation for low crime, social harmony, and economic growth – you will begin to understand why we believe this charming country is the ideal West African destination.

The Team

Our team is a careful balance of experienced local staff and former volunteers. The Ghanaian staff have extraordinary local knowledge, whilst the former volunteers have the experience of adapting to the challenges of living in a foreign country. Together, our team provides a formidable pool of expertise which offers volunteers an excellent level of in country support to ensure their time in Ghana is as enjoyable as possible.

The Accommodation

We have a well equipped and spacious volunteer house situated in Teshie-Nungua Estate –  a pleasant suburb of Accra. The house offers shared rooms and bathroom facilities as well as wifi internet access and Sky television in the communal living room. Whilst all meals are provided for the volunteers by our fantastic cook, the kitchen is always available for those who want to prepare something for themselves. Our accommodation also offers a small swimming pool, summer hut for relaxing after placement and an honesty bar. The friendly communal atmosphere is an excellent way for new volunteers to settle in and make friends. It is our policy to promote a vibrant social atmosphere amongst volunteers and our in country team are especially welcoming and plan plenty of social outings for our guests.

There are good local amenities with shops and ATMs only a few minutes’ walk or taxi ride away. For those who enjoy the beach and sunshine, fear not, our coastal accommodation is only 10 minutes drive away from the beach and there are also plenty of luxurious hotel pools which are open to non- guests for swimming and relaxing, at a small price.

The Cause

Ghana is a country of such fantastic potential, the evidence is there to show how much Ghana has grown and developed over the last 50 years. However, despite Ghana’s strengthening economy and increase in wealth there are still many young people who are subject to extreme poverty. The immediate impact of poverty is well documented and many people are aware of the devastation caused by hunger, illness and lack of adequate housing. But there is also a challenge to tackle the more far reaching impact of poverty – the legacy that is passed on to future generations through a lack of education, a lack of opportunities and a lack of long-term health provision. Volunteers who come to Ghana have a genuine opportunity to make a difference to the lives of young people and the communities who need it the most.

The Placements

The placements are the central focus of any volunteer’s experience in Ghana. We are a community driven organization and as such our placements are dedicated to community needs. From teaching to building projects, from football to vaccinations – we support those that really need it by offering tangible help and opportunities. We have a diverse range of placements meaning that anyone can find something which sparks their interest; an impassioned volunteer iscapable of doing so much more than a bored one!

We are fortunate not only to have the support of dedicated volunteers, but also to work with some of Ghana’s leading institutions and organizations. With their cooperation we are in a position to offer the most rewarding placements possible meaning the best experience imaginable for volunteers and life changing results for young people and their communities in Ghana.
